Police: Man arrested in sexual assault of 6-year-old in Brooklyn Park

Brooklyn Park police have arrested a suspect in connection with a reported case of criminal sexual conduct against a 6-year-old.
In an update Friday, police stated a man was arrested "for the sexual assault of the 6-year-old child."
Police reported the assault allegedly happened on Wednesday at Willowstone Park.
The 18-year-old — identified by police as Jonah Paul Canny — was arrested at his house, which police said is close to the park. Authorities noted he did not cooperate in the arrest. He is being held at Hennepin County Jail.
"While this investigation is ongoing, we are confident we have the person responsible for this crime in custody," the Brooklyn Park Police Department said in a statement, adding formal charges are expected Tuesday. Charges are expected to include criminal sexual conduct and resisting arrest.
"The Police Department extends a sincere thank you to all the community members who assisted in this investigation," the statement read.

Police said Canny has a relatively clean record, with only minor traffic infractions and a theft charge in the past.
They said they are aware of several other accusations of sex crimes against him, which are now being investigated.
