Overnight police chase ends in St. Paul crash

UPDATE: Police say a chase involving a stolen vehicle ended in a crash in St. Paul overnight.

Although 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has reached out to the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office for specific details, the Ramsey County Deputies’ Federation says a report came in early Thursday morning from a person who said they were following their friend’s stolen vehicle in the area of Highway 280 and Broadway Avenue.

Deputies who responded say they found a vehicle on I-94 and Snelling Avenue, and began to follow it as the vehicle went north on Snelling Avenue.

The deputies then tried to stop the vehicle near Snelling and Edmond Avenues, but the driver fled the scene, and drove east in the westbound lanes of University Avenues.

Deputies say they chased after the vehicle, driving east in the eastbound lanes.

Eventually, the Deputies’ Federation says the suspect hit an uninvolved vehicle with two people inside of it around 2 a.m. The vehicle that was hit had made a legal U-turn at University and Pascal Street.

According to deputies, the suspect was taken into custody and brought to the hospital. Meanwhile, they say the two uninvolved people who were in the second vehicle left the scene on their own.

The name and age of the suspect has not been provided as of this time.
