Police investigating homicide in Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul

Police responded to the intersection of Charles Avenue and Galtier Street after multiple people called 911 reporting shots fired. On scene, authorities found a man sitting in a parked vehicle with a gunshot wound to his torso.

St. Paul police are investigating a homicide in the city’s Frogtown neighborhood that left a man dead.

Police responded to the intersection of Charles Avenue and Galtier Street around 7 p.m. Wednesday after multiple people called 911 reporting shots fired. On scene, authorities found a man sitting in a parked vehicle, saying he had been shot in his torso.

The man was brought to Regions Hospital but died as a result of his injuries. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner later identified the man as 33-year-old Tirece Reed from Inver Grove Heights

His death marks the city’s 15th homicide of 2024. Police say that number is down from the 20 homicides officers had been called to by this time last year.

“We’ve had 15 people killed in our city. That’s 15 families that have been torn apart by violence. We want that number to be zero,” said Sgt. Mike Ernster of the St. Paul Police Department. “We want neighborhoods like tonight to not have to experience what they’re experiencing. We don’t want crime scene tape in our neighborhoods, we don’t want shell casings in our streets. The first step in that is holding those responsible.”

Neon evidence markers showed at least 20 casings on the ground, but investigators are working to determine the circumstances that led up to the shooting.
