Police are asking community members in Brooklyn Park to be on the lookout for a man who is suspected of trying to kidnap a child Wednesday.

According to Brooklyn Park police, officers were told by a citizen there was suspicious behavior near Brookdale Drive and Kyle Avenue North around 6 a.m. as their child waited for a school bus.

The citizen then told police a man approached the child in a vehicle. Police were told the man then told the child to get in his vehicle and he would give them a ride, and when the child refused, the man left his vehicle and approached the child, who was able to safely run back home.

Police say the man then headed west on Brookdale Drive from Kyle Avenue North in a blue, mid-90’s Nissan four door vehicle that is similar to an Altima.

The vehicle is also said to have heavy rust on the front and rear quarter panels, as well as the front fender. In addition, the wheels were described as having all black rims, and didn’t have caps or covers.

Officials say the child described the man as being Hispanic, in his mid-50’s, had a light beard and was bald.

Call police if you have any information available about the suspect or the suspect’s vehicle.
