Police: 21-year-old woman victim of St. Paul's Union Park neighborhood homicide

Police have identified the woman pronounced dead at the scene of a homicide investigation in St. Paul early Wednesday morning.

Authorities were at the scene on the 300 block of North Pierce Street in the city's Union Park neighborhood for hours Wednesday.

Police received a call just after midnight reporting a domestic incident. Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive woman who was pronounced dead at the scene. Thursday, authorities identified the woman as 21-year-old Abigail Elise Simpson.

Police said a man, identified as 23-year-old Terrion Lamar Sherman, was taken into custody in connection with the incident and was booked into Ramsey County Jail on suspicion of murder.

Court records show Sherman had been deemed mentally ill in October 2018. He was also considered to be chemically dependent and a risk to himself, as well as others.

Police also said a two-year-old child at the scene, who witnessed the incident, was not hurt. 

The Ramsey County medical examiner is working to determine Simpson's exact cause of death.
