The Maple Grove Police Department held a press conference on Friday to readdress a 2019 homicide that has gone unsolved.
The department, along with the family of then-26-year-old Dayton Rossetti, held a press conference to announce a $20,000 reward being offered to anyone who can provide information that leads to an arrest and charges in the case. The money is in partnership with Crime Stoppers of Minnesota and Rossetti’s family.
"Villains like the killers of Dayton talk, they brag, they get drunk and stoned. They tell information, and other people know this information and without retaliation or fear of reprisal, you can stay safe and contact us," Crime Stoppers of Minnesota Chairman Robert Dennistoun said.
Rossetti’s mother read a statement Friday morning.
According to a release, in the early morning of July 30, 2019, Maple Grove police were called to an area of Lakeview Knolls Park near the 14300 block of 93rd Avenue for a report of an unconscious man. The investigation revealed that Rossetti died as a result of a gunshot wound. It was determined that his death was committed in a homicide.
During the initial investigation, two suspects were arrested on probable cause, but were later released as more evidence was learned. Evidence later showed there was another individual possibly with the arrested parties at the time of the homicide.
Detectives have identified the suspect and are seeking information as to the involvement of all three individuals in the death of Rossetti.
Police say the individuals involved in this case have ties to Maple Grove, Leech Lake and Cass Lake.
"I always feel like I have to come back where he took his last breath, but at the same time, it’s so painful," Dayton’s mother Jennifer Carter said. "He shouldn’t be a memory. He should be living his full life."
"He was so outgoing, so energetic and made friends with everybody. He always made people laugh," she added.
Anyone with information on this case can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or online, or through their P3 Tips mobile app to be eligible for the reward. Any other information can be provided to Detective Angela Tschida at 763-494-6214 or her email. Reference case #MG19011486.
