Police: 2 Amazon delivery vehicles stolen in St. Paul over the weekend, 1 at gunpoint

The St. Paul Police Department is investigating two separate instances of Amazon delivery vehicles being stolen over the weekend.

St. Paul police spokesperson Steve Linders told KSTP the first incident occurred on Saturday at 3:47 p.m. after a man reported his Amazon delivery truck had been stolen. He told police he was in the area of Bush Avenue when he noticed a black SUV following him. The vehicle was said to have followed the Amazon driver for two blocks until the driver stopped on the 1100 block of Bush Avenue to deliver a package. The driver of the SUV then proceeded to park on the corner.

The Amazon delivery driver saw a male get out from the SUV and walk toward the Amazon truck. The victim told authorities he saw the male jump into the driver’s seat and drive away at a high rate of speed, with the SUV following.

A short time later, officers located the Amazon truck on the 1000 block of York Avenue. It was found unoccupied and had its contents emptied. Additionally, the driver’s cellphone was reported stolen. A witness later told police that they saw someone park the Amazon truck and a dark-colored SUV pulled up. The packages from the delivery truck were reportedly loaded into the SUV, followed by the SUV driving off. However, the witness reported the SUV’s license plate information to police and officers used that information to find the suspect vehicle.

One suspect has been arrested on a warrant, police said. The case remains under investigation.

Then, on Sunday at about 3:10 p.m., officers were called to Front Avenue and Albermarle Street on a report of a robbery. A 23-year-old Amazon delivery driver told authorities someone had stolen his delivery van.

He said he was parked at a stop sign located in the area, facing south, when he left the van to drop off some packages at a nearby residence. As he turned around, he witnessed a van parked next to his Amazon van. He noted he heard the engine of his van roar and saw it begin moving in reverse. In response, the driver jumped inside the open slide door on the passenger side of the Amazon van.

The suspect then turned to the delivery driver and said, "You still got your job, you wanna keep your life?" and pointed a silver handgun at the delivery driver, according to police.

The victim then grabbed his backpack from the passenger seat and jumped out of the van while it was moving.

A short time later, police were able to track down the Amazon van using GPS. It was found on the 800 block of Marion Street and its contents had been taken. There are no known suspects at this time, and the case remains under investigation.
