A petition to repave a popular Minneapolis bike trail has gotten over 2,000 signatures.
Recently, the city finished repaving the Midtown Greenway trail that goes from the lakes to Midtown. But many who use it, especially cyclists, believe the work is unacceptable and made the trail even worse than it already was.
"I was disappointed, I thought they must not be done but the website says it’s done, so what’s going on here?" Steve Brandt, a Greenway cyclist, said.
Members of the Midtown Greenway Coalition say the trail is too rough, has dangerous gaps and is uneven.
They’re now calling on the city to redo the work and invest the money they had initially planned into the project.
"They tried to do it on the cheap, it didn’t work, and we’re asking for them to do it again, start over. Just admit that it didn’t work, they should have done the whole mill and overlay, and commit to making it right," Soren Jensen, the executive director of the Midtown Greenway Coalition, said.
City officials say they plan to evaluate the trail over the next few months to develop options for any potential corrections.
