A family from New Brighton is grateful no one was hurt when a fire appeared to be intentionally lit outside of their home.

Security video from Saturday morning shows a car pulling up to the home on the 1700 block of 19th Avenue Northwest.

A fire can be seen shortly after the car drives away and the fire goes out. Twenty minutes later, the suspect comes back to relight the fire.

A newspaper delivery person saw the fire, called 911 and tried to wake the family. Police officers and firefighters arrived a short time later.

The house had some damage but the homeowners and their two young children got out safely.

"This was attempted murder to us," homeowner Haley Ludwig said. "You know our family could be dead. I’ve literally been sleeping dressed pretty much every night, to be honest with a weapon next to me, like who is going to come after my family now."

This case is currently under investigation as a suspicious fire.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Brighton Department of Public Safety.
