Multiple people assaulted, robbed in St. Paul; retired police chief involved in incident

Authorities say a group of people was assaulted and robbed Friday night in St. Paul's Como neighborhood.

A police report states two men and two women were assaulted and robbed at about 7:11 p.m. near Spencer Road and Energy Lane.

The incident is under investigation.

St. Paul Police told KSTP Tuesday that four juveniles had been arrested in connection to the incident: two girls, ages 14 and 16, and two boys, ages 15 and 17.

A retired police chief, Bob Jacobson, who was a police officer for more than 30 years and director of the New Brighton Department of Public Safety until 2016, said in a Facebook post he was struck in the head from behind with a piece of wooden furniture after he attempted to intervene.

He said in the Facebook post "That couple was randomly and brutally assaulted in daylight," adding that eight young people demanded their phones and money.
