Due to extremely warm temperatures being forecast for much of the state, some schools in Minneapolis will have an e-learning day Tuesday.
Minneapolis Public Schools noted many of the district’s schools are without air conditioning, which led to the decision to move to e-learning for students in those particular schools. In addition, the schools will be closed to the public. Those schools are:
- Anthony
- Anwatin
- Bryn Mawr
- Field
- Hiawatha
- Kenny
- Kenwood
- Lake Harriet Lower
- Lake Harriet Upper
- Longfellow
- Northrup
- Pratt
- Roosevelt
- Sheridan
In addition, the district says all after-school activities, as well as Minneapolis Kids, at the affected schools are canceled.
All other schools in the district will operate as usual.
Heat indices are forecast to be more than 100 degrees Tuesday. An Excessive Heat Warning is in place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in multiple counties, including Hennepin County. A full list of weather alerts can be found by CLICKING HERE, and your full forecast can be found HERE.
If families need to pick food up for their student, cold lunches will be provided. Family members are asked to contact their school for additional information if food is needed.
Although students were originally scheduled to be out of classes for the school year earlier this month, the school year was extended in a plan approved by the school board after a teacher strike caused 14 days of classes to be missed this past spring.
A state statute says students attending public schools in grades 1-11 must have at least 165 days in class.
Classes are scheduled to end for the school year in the district on June 24.
