MPD, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office make more than 40 arrests in connection to carjackings

Tuesday, Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arradondo and Hennepin County Sheriff David Hutchinson announced 41 felony arrests in connection to a three-day crackdown on carjackings in Minneapolis.

Along with the arrests, authorities recovered seven stolen vehicles and five guns.

According to Minneapolis Police, to date, there have been 391 reported carjackings in 2020.

During the enforcement, the departments used a helicopter detail that could be seen over south Minneapolis.

“I know for some residents this was a nuisance to have to hear hovering above but it was done very intentionally,” Arradondo said.

The chief added, “Again, we want to be sensitive that there may be some in the that may have some differences with that helicopter, but again, we felt it was intentional.”

Arradondo said the departments will continue to use tools like helicopters “if it keeps our businesses and residents safe.”
