Minnesotans woke up to snow falling — and sticking for a bit — Friday morning.

KSTP Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas says snow showers are expected to continue through the late morning Friday before mixing with rain the rest of the day.

KSTP Meteorologist Matt Serwe says there was about an inch of snow near Hugo Friday morning, where some were enjoying the snow. Across the region, others weren’t enjoying the snow as much. Although the snow isn’t supposed to stick around too long, the National Weather Service reported there was a tenth of an inch of snowfall at its Twin Cities location as of 6 a.m. Meanwhile, the National Weather Service in Duluth reported nearly two inches of snow at its office.

According to the NWS, the first two weeks of November are one of the more popular times for the season’s first snowfall, so Friday morning was a bit early.

However, the agency said the earliest snow has fallen at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was Sept. 24. The average time for the first snowfall is Nov. 4 while the latest report was made on Dec. 2.
