Minnesota Sen. Ingebrigtsen to retire, not seek reelection in 2022
A Minnesota state senator has announced his plans to retire at the end of his current term instead of seeking reelection.
Sen. Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria, says 2022 will be his final year in the state Senate.
He was first elected to the Senate in 2006 after spending 34 years in the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Ingebrigtsen is the chairman of the Environment and Natural Resources Finance Committee and the vice chair of the Finance Committee.
Ingebrigtsen is the latest in a quickly growing line of state lawmakers opting to not seek reelection this year.
His full statement is below.
"After a great deal of consideration, I have decided not to run for re-election in 2022. In my remaining year in the legislature, I look forward to continuing to advocate for the folks of Senate District 8.
It has been a great honor to serve in the Minnesota Senate, and I have been thankful for the opportunity to represent the outstanding people of west-central Minnesota. Over my tenure, I have been grateful to work with many wonderful legislators and Minnesotans on the issues most important to our state.
As I look forward to retirement, I must stop and thank my family for their years of support. Without them, I could not have done this. I also want to thank all the dedicated staff who served my office during my legislative career.
As I begin my next phase, I will continue to advocate for the people of Alexandria, Greater Minnesota, as well as our law enforcement officers and outdoor enthusiasts and sportsmen. I want to thank the people of west-central Minnesota again for putting their trust in me for all these years."
