Minnesota mom launches foundation to keep her son’s memory alive and to keep outdoor enthusiasts safe.

It has been almost two years since Brainerd, Minnesota native Corey Borg-Massanari was killed in an avalanche while skiing in Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico.

Just this month his family launched a foundation in his name, "The Corey Borg-Massanari Foundation," to help fundraise donations for the purchase and training of ski-patrol rescue dogs.

The family says a rescue dog named "Izzy" was the one who found Corey in feet of snow. They say the dog became a hero to their family.

"The ski patrol and the ski patrol dogs worked so hard that day. Izzy was the name of the dog that picked up Corey’s scent. If she had not found him when she did, we wouldn’t have had those days to say goodbye. She’s kind of my hero," said Bobbie Gorron, Corey’s mom.

The foundation will start by focussing on search-and-rescue dogs but will expand to any kind of outdoor safety.

"I knew I wanted to do something in his name, because my fear was that people would forget him and I didn’t want him to be forgotten. I think he would be proud of this," said Gorron.
