Minnesota man dies of apparent drowning in Hawaii

A Minnesota man died of an apparent drowning in Hawaii Monday.

According to a release from the Kaua'i Police Department, 64-year-old Thomas Bossert died of an apparent drowning Monday in the waters in front of the Mariott's Waiohai Beach Club.

Preliminary reports suggest that Bossert entered the water to snorkel with family members, and while in the ocean became separated from his family.

A resident swimming in the same area later came across Bossert, who at that point was motionless and unresponsive in the water. The resident signaled lifeguards who got to the scene in less than 30 seconds. The lifeguards brought Bossert to shore and began administering CPR, according to the department.

Firefighters and medics arrived on scene and attempted lifesaving measures; however, Bossert could not be revived.

Prior to entering the water, lifeguards notified beachgoers about dangerous ocean conditions that day.
