Minnesota bicyclist dies in California after being hit by a car

A Minnesota bicyclist died in California Thursday after being struck by a vehicle.

According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to a vehicle and bicycle crash near Beach Boulevard and Indianapolis Avenue.

When officers arrived, they located a 35-year-old Minnesota man lying in the roadway, unresponsive with serious injuries.

The man was transported to UCI Medical Center for treatment.

A 2016 Honda Civic was also located in the roadway and had suffered significant damage from the crash. The driver, a 64-year-old man from Huntington, remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

On Thursday, the bicyclist succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. An obituary on the website of Sandberg Funeral Home identified him as Adam Joseph Nickelson.

The incident is still under investigation.
