A trio of axe throwers will be representing Minnesota on the world stage soon.
Their unofficial team name is ‘Generation Axe,’ representing the range in their ages: David Lewis, 55, Dustin Kerr, 40, and Austin Luecke, who is 26-years-old.
The three have a month left to prepare for the World Axe Throwing Championship taking place from Dec. 10 – 12 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Lewis and Kerr will be competing in the duels division — the two stand side-by-side and throw a hatchet at the same target. Both Lewis and Luecke will be throwing in the big axe division. Luecke also qualified for the hatchet division.
If the men make it to the finals on the 12th, you’ll be able to watch them compete on ESPN.
“It’s hard to envision yourself sometimes as being at the level of some of these athletes,” Lewis said about the competition.
As of Sunday, Lewis was the second-best big axe thrower in the world. Kerr and Luecke are also highly ranked heading into the championship.
“We’ve been able to help each other, make corrections to our throws and elevate our game so we can compete with some of the best in the world,” Lewis added about practicing with Kerr and Luecke.
