Minneapolis man identified as victim of fatal weekend shooting

UPDATE 8/8/22 – Authorities have identified the man found dead early Sunday morning in Minneapolis.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office, 29-year-old Mohamed Omar of Minneapolis died from multiple gunshot wounds at East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue shortly before 3:30 a.m.

Omar’s death marked the city’s 55th homicide investigation of the year. Police haven’t released any additional details on the investigation, or possible suspects.

INITIAL REPORT 8/7/22 – Minneapolis police found a man dead with gunshot wounds early Sunday in the city’s 55th homicide investigation of the year.

Police went to East 38th Street and Chicago Avenue after receiving a report of gunfire and an unresponsive person on the ground around 3:20 a.m.

Responders found a man lying dead near the sidewalk on the street, police say.

The department also reported an unoccupied, running vehicle at the scene that police believe belongs to the victim.

The gunfire also damaged the vehicle, although police did not say to what extent.

Minneapolis homicide detectives are investigating.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release details about the man and his death.

At this time, no information has been provided on possible suspects.
