Minneapolis police: Early morning shooting leaves one dead

One man is dead after apparently violating a restraining order and assaulting someone inside a residence early Saturday morning, according to Minneapolis police.

At 3:08 a.m., officers responded to the 3800 block of Grand Avenue South on a report of an individual armed with a gun. Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive man with multiple gunshot wounds. Law enforcement provided first aid until the man was taken to the hospital where he died.

Police believe that the man had violated a restraining order and forced entry into a residence where he assaulted someone inside. Multiple people were in the residence at the time, shots were fired and the man was hit.

An investigation is underway. No one is in custody.

Police said this is the fourth homicide of 2022 in Minneapolis.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity and cause of death of the man in the coming days.
