Minneapolis communities frustrated after more deadly shootings

Two people were killed and three hurt in separate shootings Thursday night in Minneapolis; community members said a solution feels out of reach.

"This is sad because a lot of families are losing family members for no reason," Wood, Penn-Wood market worker, said.

Wood is the eyes and ears of the Harrison neighborhood. He said around Penn-Wood market, he’s seen too much.

"You walk that way it’s very nice. You can take the kids for a walk, anything, but then you come down here and it’s just chaotic," he said.

Around 8 p.m. Thursday night, Minneapolis police responded to the area on a shotspotter activation that reported several rounds of gunfire.

Two people were injured, and one of them later died.

"I knew him very well, good guy," Wood said.

He said the shootings are becoming more reckless, showing no mercy to children.

"When a guy shoots, and they see the kids, they don’t stop. They’ll keep going," Wood said.

Ten minutes down the road on the northside, there’s a memorial honoring another gunshot victim.

Minneapolis police responded to North 42nd Avenue around 6:15 p.m. Thursday night.

Inside Clientele Barbershop, police found a man who already died from his injuries. Two others were shot, but they survived.

"I actually found out on Facebook because people were reaching out to see if I was okay," Marquitta Davis, Paradise Beauty Supply Store worker, said.

Davis works above the barbershop but was not there at the time of the shooting.

It was another tragedy leaving the community at a loss for words.

Wood is calling on state officials for change.

"Everybody’s trying to figure out how to fix the problem. You can’t fix the problem in the office. The problem is here, so you have to come here to give an update. You got to talk to the people," Wood said.
