MIAC approves a COVID-19 fall 2021 sports competition plan

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced Monday that it has approved a COVID-19 fall sports competition plan for the upcoming 2021 fall semester.

The new guidance covers vaccination, testing, reporting COVID-19 cases, contest rescheduling, masking, handshakes, post-season, and arena capacity.

Regular testing will depend on a person’s vaccination status. Each team must report COVID-19 cases in the secure MIAC database and alert all close contacts. Both teams must adhere to the home team’s masking rules. Games may be rescheduled if a safe option is available, and conference games will take precedence over non-conference games in these cases. No handshakes will be allowed during games. Teams must complete 75 percent of games to be eligible for the post-season. Venue spectator attendance will be determined by each team.

Overall, all teams must adhere to all local COVID-19 rules in their respective cities or towns.

The plan was developed in conjunction with the NCAA and the Minnesota Department of Health.
