Martial arts instructor charged with criminal sexual conduct
An instructor at an Eden Prairie Tae Kwon Do studio faces multiple charges after authorities say he had sexual intercourse with a student, according to court records.
A criminal complaint states 30-year-old Hyobin Lee faces two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
According to the complaint, Eden Prairie police were notified of the abuse through a mandatory reporter.
During an interview, the victim said she had been involved in Tae Kwon Do since she was 9 years old, and that she had been attending the same Eden Prairie studio, which the complaint did not name.
Lee began teaching at the studio in 2015 after coming to the U.S. from Korea.
The complaint says, beginning in 2018, Lee and the victim had sex on multiple occasions while the victim was 15.
The victim stopped having contact with Lee in November 2018 when a new studio opened and the victim began attending that location.
If found guilty, Lee could face up to 60 years in prison.
