MART rescues woman who broke leg in Pine County wilderness
Authorities helped rescue an injured person in the wilderness Pine County Tuesday morning.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the Minnesota Air Rescue Team (MART) was dispatched to help a patient.
The Pine County Sheriff’s Office said it received a report of a woman with a broken leg at about 7:40 a.m. The caller said the woman was on an island between Sandstone and Hinckley on the Kettle River.
The sheriff’s office said the woman is believed to have accidentally stepped into a hole on the island, which broke her leg.
Authorities responded to the area but due to the terrain and difficult access, MART was called to help.
Ground personnel were able to walk a trail to the river and kayak out to the woman to begin first aid measures.
MART later arrived and was able to extract the woman and take her to a nearby field where an ambulance was waiting.
The woman was then taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
MART is a joint effort between the State Patrol and the St. Paul Fire Department.
