Man shot in front of his children, suspect still on the loose

Shooting leaves man injured

The shooting happened at George Floyd Square around 5 p.m. Friday.

Minneapolis police say they are searching for the person responsible for shooting a man in the head in front of his toddler-aged children.

According to police, officers were called to George Floyd Square around 5 p.m. Friday for a report of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found the injured man, identified as a 31-year-old, in the passenger seat of a parked vehicle on the 4100 block of Chicago Avenue. He was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center with a gunshot injury that’s considered to be life-threatening after he was given aid at the scene.

The vehicle’s driver, identified as a woman, pulled over after driving for four blocks following the shooting, which police say they believe happened after an altercation.

“This victim’s children – who are very young- were inside the car with them at that time. Thankfully, the children weren’t injured,” said Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara.

The children’s exact ages haven’t been provided.

As of this time, no one is in custody for the shooting, but O’Hara said the suspect and victim know each other.
