Man sentenced to probation for leading police on pursuit while pulling camper

A man who led authorities on a chase while pulling a camper last summer was sentenced Tuesday.

John Clarence Hurd, 50, was sentenced to three years of supervised probation. The judge also sentenced him to 32 days in jail but gave him credit for already serving 32 days, and also sentenced him to one year and one day at the St. Cloud Correctional Facility but stayed that sentence for three years, which will likely be waived as long as Hurd doesn't violate his probation.

Hurd was charged with fleeing a peace officer and obstructing the legal process for the incident, which happened on July 12.

Anoka Police said it originally started as a traffic stop near a gas station on East River Road, but shortly after 8 p.m. Hurd took off. His SUV and camper headed east on Highway 10, and authorities eventually deployed stop sticks, tipping the camper and ending the pursuit.

The obstructing the legal process charge against him was later dismissed.
