Minneapolis police are investigating the department’s 47th homicide of the year after one man died in a shooting early Sunday morning.
Officers responded around 1:45 a.m. to a shots fired report and found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds at the scene near Cedar Field Park.
Despite life-saving efforts by police, fire and emergency medical services, the man died in the hospital.
Early information suggests the man was confronted by at least one person in a parking lot when he was shot.
Police say they believe the 22-year-old victim and the suspect knew each other.
Forensic scientists and homicide investigators processed the scene in the parking lot at 2501 Cedar Avenue South.
Gunshots damaged nearby vehicles, police confirm. The incident occurred near multiple apartment complexes.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the deceased as 22-year-old Ivan James Redday.
At this time, police have not provided descriptions of possible suspects or given word if anyone has been arrested.
