Man fatally hit by train in Brainerd
A man was killed after he was struck by a train in Brainerd on Thursday.
According to the Brainerd Police Department, at about 8:52 a.m., officers responded to a report of a male hit by a train. Authorities responded to train tracks as SW 4th and located a deceased man about 100 yards to the west.
Officers learned that a BNSF train was traveling eastbound prior to the SW Fourth Street intersection, and the train operator observed a man walking toward the train tracks. The man reportedly went onto the tracks in the path of the train as the operator applied the brakes and was struck.
Police were able to identify the 66-year-old victim, however, his name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The investigation is ongoing.
