Man drowns after attempting to retrieve bobber from central Minnesota lake
A man drowned on the Fourth of July after he attempted to retrieve a bobber from a lake in central Minnesota.
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office said on Sunday at about 7:58 p.m., authorities responded to a report of a man who had gone under the water in North Long Lake near Hawick Township.
Police determined that a 28-year-old man from the area had gone into the water to retrieve a bobber while he was out fishing from a dock. While he attempted to get the bobber, he began to struggle, went under the water and did not come back up to the surface. Authorities add he was not wearing a life vest at the time.
A search of the water began by multiple agencies, and he was eventually located. Life-saving measures were performed, however, police say he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the victim will be released after the family has been properly notified.
