Man dies in hospital after Sunday shooting, marking 79th homicide in Minneapolis this year

A man died in the hospital after being shot Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis, police said.
According to the Minneapolis Police Department, officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation near the 3600 block of Fremont Avenue North at 1:18 p.m. Soon after, North Memorial Health Hospital notified police that a man with a gunshot wound had self-transported to the hospital.
The victim died at the hospital. Police confirmed that he was the victim in the Fremont Avenue incident.
This is the 79th Minneapolis homicide in 2021, police said.
Police believe the perpetrator and victim knew one another and the incident seems to be isolated.
No arrests have been made.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity and cause of death soon.
