Man charged with murder in connection with fatal shooting outside Pennwood Market

A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fatal shooting Thursday in the Harrison neighborhood of Minneapolis.

Tyreese Joseph Giles, 21, of Minneapolis, is charged with one count of second-degree murder, court documents show.

According to a criminal complaint, around 8 p.m. Thursday, Minneapolis police responded to a report of a shooting at Glenwood and Penn avenues, outside Pennwood Market. Officers were told two men had been shot and were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center before first responders could get to the scene. One of the victims died hours later from their injuries.

Surveillance footage of the incident shows the victim standing outside Pennwood Market and talking to two other males. The three of them are seen running away, with the victim clutching his chest from an apparent gunshot.

According to the complaint, the suspect in the video is seen shooting at the victim, who tries to run into the market and then back toward a vehicle before collapsing. The gunman kept approaching the victim and continued to shoot. After the suspect ran away, a witness can be seen firing a shot at the suspect before loading the victim into the car and driving to the hospital.

The second person to arrive at the hospital with a gunshot wound was identified as Giles, who matched the description of the suspected shooter in the surveillance video. The complaint states he arrived at the hospital roughly nine minutes after the shooting and was wearing the same clothes as the gunman in the video.

Giles was booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday afternoon, and a judge has set his bail at $1 million. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has yet to identify the shooting victim.
