Man charged in connection to Minneapolis houseboat theft

A man has been charged in connection to the theft of a houseboat in Minneapolis over the weekend.

A criminal complaint states John Earl Benton Stimpson faces two counts of felony theft.

According to the complaint, police were called just after 10:40 a.m. Sunday on the report of a theft in progress on Nicollet Island.

When police arrived, the callers told them that a man had cut a docked houseboat free from the dock and was now drifting in the river.

The callers said this was the third time the man had boarded the boat in the last two weeks.

When the boat drifted to the shore, police arrested the man, identified later as Stimpson.
