Aitkin County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol arrested a man who took a woman from her home against her will and caused a two-vehicle crash with a rollover Friday evening.

According to the sheriff's office, at 2:30 p.m., officers and the state patrol responded to the incident approximately 3 miles north of the City of Aitkin.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers determined there were no injuries.

However, witnesses told officers that a woman who had been a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash had been taken from her home against her will, police said.

They said a man they knew pulled into their driveway and physically put the woman into his pickup truck and drove away.

Both witnesses used their vehicles to chase the pickup truck. At one point, two of the vehicles collided, one leaving the roadway and rolling over.

The driver of the pickup truck had fled into the nearby woods to then the K9 track was deployed and the suspect was located hiding in the woods.

Stephen Karkoc, 32, of Ramsey Minnesota, was taken into custody.

There are two Domestic Abuse No Contact Orders prohibiting Karkoc from having contact with the woman he had taken from the home. Those orders were filed in Anoka County and Freeborn County Minnesota.

Karkoc remains in the Aitkin County Jail until the Aitkin County Attorney’s Office brings formal charges.

The condition of the woman taken from her home was not stated in the release.
