Man arrested after fleeing authorities in stolen vehicle, hiding in Chisago County swamp

A man was arrested Saturday night after fleeing authorities in a stolen vehicle and then hiding in a swamp in Chisago County.

According to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office, a North Branch police officer responded to a call of a man trying to sell a vehicle and claiming it was stolen. The officer located the vehicle in Harris but the driver fled.

After the suspect got the vehicle stuck in a ditch, the sheriff’s office said the suspect fled into a wooded area.

A K-9 unit was called and tracked the suspect into a swamp.

The man was then arrested on 13 charges, including for an outstanding warrant, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle was confirmed to have been stolen and was reported missing by another law enforcement agency in southeastern Minnesota earlier Saturday.

The suspect wasn’t immediately identified.
