Man accused of killing parents in Todd County pleads guilty, sentenced to life in prison

A Minnesota man who was accused of murdering his parents at their Todd County home last year and escaping to Mexico has pleaded guilty.

According to court records, Dylan Bennett pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder Monday in the death of his parents, Barry and Carol Bennett.

Barry Bennett was a former defensive lineman in the NFL where he played for several teams, including for the Minnesota Vikings for one season.

Bennett was also sentenced Monday to two life sentences without the possibility of parole.

Bennett became a suspect after authorities found his parents shot to death in their Long Prairie home on Aug. 21, 2019. The sheriff’s office and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension discovered Bennett had purchased an airline ticket from Ohio to Cancun earlier that week.

He was later arrested in Cancun and extradited back to Minnesota.
