The fire marshal is investigating a major fire at a day care center in Brooklyn Park.
Crews got the call just after 2 a.m. Thursday at Xerxes Avenue KinderCare, just north of Brookdale Drive N.
The battalion chief said no children or staff members were in the building at the time, and no one was hurt.
KinderCare managers told 5 EYEWITNESS News they are now working to place the kids in another center.
Cardell Adams said his 3-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter loved coming to the learning center every day and he is worried about the next steps.
“I’m going to call and let them know school burned down,” Adams said. “It’s sad. Where are my kids going to go to school right now?”
Brooklyn Park Fire Department said crews initially went inside to try to knock down the flames but it quickly became unsafe.
The crews found flames coming through the roof and they decided to pull out at that time because they had partial collapse in that room already,” said Battalion Chief Mike Maurer.
The fire marshal was on scene Thursday, working to figure out what sparked the fire and whether or not it is suspicious.
