The southern Minnesota grandmother accused of killing her husband at their home before killing another woman in Florida is now in a Minnesota jail.
Lois Riess was booked into the Steele County Jail on Friday to face charges that were filed in Dodge County last year, according to the jail roster. She was charged in May 2019 with first-degree murder, second-degree murder and theft in Dodge County in connection with the killing of her husband, David.
According to court records, her husband was found dead at the couple’s Blooming Prairie home. Riess was later arrested in Texas and charged in connection with the killing of a Florida woman, Pamela Hutchinson.
Riess pleaded guilty in December to first-degree murder with a firearm, grand theft of a motor vehicle, grand theft and criminal use of personal identification information of a deceased individual and was sentenced in Florida. Prosecutors originally sought the death penalty but exchanged life in prison for a guilty plea.
Paperwork was filed earlier this year to extradite Riess to Minnesota to face charges in her husband’s death.
As of Sunday, there was no information on when Riess is due to appear in court.
