The family of the 6-year-old who was killed in a car crash, involving a police pursuit wants justice and accountability for their little girl.

Her name was Blessings and she was loved by many.

“She was happy and made everybody else happy,” Corel Grey, Blessings’ father, said while surrounded by family. “She was a joy, just the way she looked at life,” Grey added about his daughter.

Friday, the Brooklyn Center Police Department (BCPD) was chasing a man the department said was wanted for murder – the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) says the suspect was 28-year-old Hakeem Waheed Muhammed, of Minneapolis.

The pursuit ended when Muhammed crashed into the car Blessings and four others were in, near 53rd and Humbolt Avenues. Police say Muhammed drove as fast as 70 miles-per-hour – he was taken into custody at the crash site.

Five people were in the car – a 15-year-old is still in the hospital.

In a Facebook post about the pursuit and crash, the BCPD stated steps were taken to try and stop Muhammed before the crash.

Officers requested help from the State Patrol helicopter and attempted to use a tire deflating device to prevent a possible pursuit during the arrest attempt. The tire deflating device failed to immobilize the suspect vehicle and the suspect fled in his vehicle.

The HCSO is now leading the investigation.

In a tweet, the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association released a statement, “demanding immediate justice for this family.”

Blessings’ family started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses and therapy.
