This year would have marked the 132nd year of the Lake Minnetonka Fourth of July Celebration.

The organizers cited limitations on gatherings, sponsorship budgets that are on hold and fundraising difficulties as reasoning for the cancellation.

Those who regularly attend the celebration were disappointed to hear about the event's cancellation.

"We have a little girl who is so excited for the Fourth," event volunteer and participant Angie Bean said. "It's bigger than Christmas for us."

The Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce says the event will return in 2021.
