KSTP Chief Meteorologist Dave Dahl retiring after 43 years at 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS

After more than 43 years of keeping Minnesotans updated on the weather, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Chief Meteorologist Dave Dahl will retire at the end of 2020.

Dahl began his career at KSTP on July 29, 1977, and has spent his entire career with the station.

"I feel very blessed that the ownership of KSTP, the Hubbard family, gave a kid right out of college a chance over 43 years ago. It’s been a dream job doing what I love in the state where I grew up," Dahl said. "It’s been an honor delivering the forecast to the people of Minnesota and Wisconsin each day, whether it was beautiful, or stormy, I’m grateful I was given the opportunity and cannot thank you enough!"

"Dave has obviously been a really important member of our 5 Eyewitness News team over the last 43 years. In reality, Dave has also played a vital role in serving our entire community," Rob Hubbard, president of Hubbard Television, said. "Nobody in our state has done so much to help Minnesotans. Whether planning a picnic or knowing when to take cover, Dave has positively impacted all of our lives."

Born and raised in Minnesota, Dahl attended the University of Minnesota and earned his degree in meteorology from Florida State University before coming home to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

He’s played a very active role in the Twin Cities community, actively supporting many causes, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, Pain Free Patriots, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Kiwanis, Rotary and, on a very personal level, American Heart Association.

"The 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS Weather Department is Minnesota’s Weather Authority. Growing up in Minnesota gives this weather crew an advantage over all of the rest," Dahl said. "After I step away, they’ll continue to deliver the forecast with the high standards that 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS viewers expect every day."
