Kevin Doran & 5 at the Fair: Day 9

Kevin Doran is back at the fair Friday, exploring the sights and sounds one last time before an extended Labor Day weekend. Doran checked out prize-winning pumpkins and the largest boar at the great Minnesota get-together, and spoke with the co-founder of Annie’s Project about women in agriculture.

Fair Insider: Day 9

Kevin Doran started the day out by speaking with Mike Marcotte, executive producer of Minnesota Live, with tips for visitors on free things to see and do at the fair this Labor Day weekend.

DNR Hunting License

Besides educating fair visitors with presentations and answering questions, the DNR Building at the State Fair also offers real services, including hunting and fishing licenses. Doran and his wife visited the building Friday to purchase deer hunting licenses, and Kevin and spoke with DNR officials about other ways to buy hunting and fishing licenses.

DNR TIP (Turn In Poachers) Trailer

Turn In Poachers (TIP Inc.) is a private, non-profit organization of conservationists who are worried about poaching. TIP Inc. provides reward money for the program. DNR Enforcement cooperates with the TIP Inc. program, which was started to encourage the public to report natural resource violations. It was founded in 1981, and anyone who reports a potential violation could get a reward of up to $1,000 if that report leads to an arrest. Click here to learn more.

Champion Giant Pumpkins

Doran was joined by our Home and Garden Expert Larry Pfarr, and the two checked out the 2022 Minnesota State Fair Champion Giant Pumpkins and talked about the world of competitive vegetable growing.

Meet Western Saddle Clubs Association (WSCA) Queen & Ms. Congeniality

Each year, the Western Saddle Clubs Association (WSCA) holds a Royalty Contest, participants are judged in a number of subjects, including riding, written tests, interviews, and public speaking. Doran spoke with WSCA Queen & Ms. Congeniality Emily Berger, members of the Royalty have excellent skills in horsemanship and have a great deal of equine and WSCA knowledge.

Minnesota State Fair Largest Boar

Doran spoke with Bob Owen of North Iowa Boar Stud. Owen is the owner of the largest boar at the State Fair — Wild Mustang — the boar is 3½ years old and weighs 1,005 lbs!
