1951 Dairy Day Princess Vivian Erickson-Thacker visits fair 

In 1951, 16-year-old Vivian Thompson (Now Vivian Erickson-Thacker) was crowned Northwest Dairy Princess in Thief River Falls. She won a set of luggage and a trip to the Minnesota State Fair. The Midwest Dairy Association started crowning Princess Kay’s in 1954. Vivian is 88 and returning to the fair, where she got to meet Princess Kay Rachel Rynda.

Princess Kay of the Milky Way Rachel Rynda

Kevin speaks with the 2022-23 Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Rachel Rynda. Princess Kay of the Milky Way acts as the official spokesperson for Minnesota’s 2,100 dairy farmers on behalf of the Midwest Dairy Association.

Mille Lacs County 4-H human pyramid

For the youth in 4-H, the Minnesota State Fair is not just a fun annual event. It’s a chance to showcase the knowledge and skills they’ve gained throughout the year and to continue their learning.
