Kevin Doran spent the first day at the great Minnesota get-together seeking out interesting attractions, unique events, and delicious fair food! 

Riverstone Clydesdales

Kevin Doran speaks with the Stuedemann’s about their Riverstone Clydesdales in the main horse barn of the Warner Coliseum.

The first weekend of the MN State Fair is all about Draft Horses. The competitions start Thursday and wrap up Monday. The incredible 6 and 8 horse hitch teams compete on Sunday and Monday. Their schedule can be found here.

The North American Classic Cart Series

The North American Classic Cart Series features a driver in a gleaming cart putting a draft horse (or team of horses) through its paces as a single unit. Every entry is competing for a share of $5,000 in prize money. The Minnesota State Fair Horse Show has invited a list of top finalists in the Central Region, encompassing 12 states and central Canada. The Classic Cart Series is a program of the North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series. The schedule can be found here.

The Historic Minnesota DNR Building

Fried Fruit & Fried Olives on a stick

Fried Fruit & Fried Olives is a food stand located just west of Nelson Street just south of the Grandstand. Kevin spoke with its owner, Carol Helmer, about her best sellers and the impact shortages of workers and supplies had on the business – they had to order supplies earlier than usual this year to ensure they arrived in time for the fair. Click here to learn more about the Fried Fruit & Fried Olives.
