Jury trial begins for man charged after stabbing, sexually assaulting woman in Crystal

A jury trial is scheduled to begin Monday for a man accused of stabbing a woman while sexually assaulting her last September in Crystal.

Twenty-seven-year-old Cortez Banks, of Brooklyn Park, is charged with attempted intentional second-degree murder, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, and domestic abuse while violating an order of protection.

As 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS previously reported, Banks was charged in late September after police said they were called to a home along Douglas Drive North, where they found a female victim on a bed with stab wounds.

The woman was unconscious and had no pulse at the time, and police began life-saving measures. She was then taken to a hospital, where Crystal Police Deputy Chief Brian Hubbard said she underwent treatment.
