Weekend closures are about to become the norm. If you’ve traveled along Interstate 694 in the north metro in the last couple of weeks, you’ve probably noticed a few construction barrels along the way.
MnDOT says the lane closure folks have been encountering is related to emergency drainage repairs. A deteriorating drainage pipe located beneath I-694 was discovered during a recent routine inspection. Now it’s time to fix it.
Westbound I-694 will close between I-35W and Long Lake Road in New Brighton starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday. Traffic will be detoured south on I-35W to I-94 westbound. Four ramps will close during the same time:
- I-35W northbound to I-694 westbound
- I-35W southbound to I-694 westbound
- I-35W southbound to I-694 eastbound
- County Road 96 to I-35W southbound
Looking ahead to next weekend, MnDOT plans to shut down I-94 in the northwest metro. The westbound lanes near Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center will close for concrete and drainage repairs.
