I-35E, Hwy 55 closes Friday due to construction in south metro
Drivers traveling around the Apple Valley, Inver Grove Heights and Mendota Heights area may need to find an alternate route starting Friday.
Highway 55 will be closed in both directions between Argenta Trail in Inver Grove Heights to Mendota Heights Road. The closure begins Friday at 6 p.m. and will last until Saturday, May 28.
Drivers should follow the posted detour. Drivers could also use Argenta Trail to and from I-494 or Yankee Doodle Road to and from I-35E.
Just past that closure, eastbound Highway 55 will be closed from Highway 5 to Mendota Heights Road from 6 a.m. Friday to Saturday, June 18. There will be a posted detour route. Drivers could utilize Highway 5 to I-494 to get around it.
MnDOT says the closures between Minneapolis and Inver Grove Heights are due to resurfacing and bridge deck preservation.
Also happening in the area, I-35E will be closed in both directions between Highway 77/Cedar Ave. near Apple Valley to I-494 in Mendota Heights from Friday at 9 p.m. to Monday, May 2 at 5 a.m.
There will be a posted detour in place using Cedar Avenue and I-494 to access I-35E. Drivers could also use Highway 13.
Highway 55/I-35E construction is expected to be completed in October. According to MnDOT, all closures are weather permitting and subject to change. Access to businesses and homes will be open throughout the project, though MnDOT says you may need to find an alternate route.
