Zayden Frye almost didn’t get to celebrate his 9th birthday because of the coronavirus pandemic. But Zayden’s grandparents were determined to make it memorable, so they asked the community for help.
“I got a text from his teacher and a friend of mine that says bring Zayden out on the deck,” said Tracy Frye, Zayden’s grandmother.
Cars were lining up around the block to say, “Happy Birthday.”
“Kids were screaming, they were honking, they had signs, they decorated their cars with balloons and streamers… and it was amazing,” said Tracy.
Zayden couldn’t believe his eyes.
“And then they went up to the deck and gave me a cake and cupcakes,” said Zayden. “I’ve never experienced something like that before.”
It was even more meaningful because it hasn’t been an easy road for the Frye family. Zayden’s mom died, so seeing this many people care was extra special for them.
“My heart was full. I cried,” said Tracy. “My husband cried. He cried. It just tells you that we’re not alone, and there is people out there that care and they continuously care.“
