St. Paul police say two men were killed Thursday afternoon in the city’s Payne-Phalen neighborhood.

They were found at a home on the 1100 block of Lawson Avenue East around 4:30 p.m., police said.

The men were pronounced dead by St. Paul Fire medics when they arrived at the scene.

Public Information Officer Sgt. Mike Ernster said that the cause of their injuries is undetermined at this time.

St. Paul police officers located a male suspect close to the crime scene and took him into custody. Sgt. Ernster says early information indicates that person is responsible for what happened.

Homicide investigators are at the scene to collect evidence and speak with witnesses.

Police add they have been called out to the home before.

“Since the first of the year (so 2022), we’ve had four calls there. Disorderly conduct, welfare check, check the welfare. So very mundane calls, nothing that would indicate something of this nature happening here,” said Sg.t Ernster.

Ernster added that the department is working with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner to identify the victims and their cause of death.

These deaths mark the 30th and 31st homicides of the year in St. Paul.
