Highway 52 closes in the east metro this weekend, I-94 to close again in Brooklyn Center

Seven directional weekend closures—that’s what drivers have to look forward to along Highway 52 in the east metro as part of a larger resurfacing project from Inver Grove Heights to St. Paul.

It was earlier this week when a couple of the ramps at Southview Boulevard and Highway 52 closed as part of the project. While they are scheduled to reopen by this coming Monday, the Minnesota Department of Transportation reports work in the area has just begun.

"Over the next several weeks, you’re going to run into what we call directional closures of Highway 52 between 494, up to Plato Boulevard, so basically up to I-94 is where you’re going to have those closures happen," MnDOT’s Kirsten Klein said. "They’re happening directionally, so starting this weekend, so starting this Friday night, northbound Highway 52 will be closing between 494 up to 94."

The lanes will shut down around 9 p.m., with ramps closing a little ahead of that. The road will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

You can follow the detour over to Highway 61. MnDOT says, weather permitting, northbound Highway 52 will close for the next three weekends, then the work will shift southbound.

In the north metro, MnDOT has updated the timing of the weekend closure along I-94. The eastbound lanes will shut down between Brooklyn Boulevard and Highway 252 in Brooklyn Center. Ramps will begin closing at 2 a.m. Saturday with eastbound lanes closing by 4 a.m. The road should reopen by 7 p.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, the detour for I-94 takes drivers to Highway 169, I-394, and Highway 100. Next weekend, the westbound lanes of I-94 are set to close in Brooklyn Center. The work there is part of a resurfacing and repair project.
