Rising gas prices are changing the way the Red Wing Police Department operates.
The change means officers will step outside their cruisers more often.
The department is adding more bike and foot patrols to help save costs.
“Trying to get them out on the bikes a little more, save some money,” Red Wing Police Chief Gordon Rohr said. “Foot patrols, just making those community contacts. Right now, I’m just hoping gas doesn’t creep up too much higher.”
Officers will still use their squads whenever needed.
The plan is to continue bike and foot patrols through the fall.
